Every time you adopt a shelter dog you save two lives. The one you take. And the one that takes it’s space. ~ Hudson Valley SPCA

Saw this on their Twitter. So true! And not only that, you make your own life better.

We had so much fun meeting all the amazing, loving, cute and wonderful dogs at the Go Dog, Go! event on Saturday.

We took a lot of doggy pics. Check out our photo album HERE!

Also, a big hello to all the people we met. Thanks for stopping by our tent. If you missed the event, we hope to see you another time. We’ve got some stuff planned for the coming months. We’ll keep you posted here, and on Twitter and Facebook.

Billboard Asks Ashton Kutcher And Demi Moore To Tweet About Puppy Mill Conditions

24 May

Ashton Kutcher (7,000,000) and Demi Moore (3,600,000) have over 10 million followers on Twitter between the two of them. That’s a lot of “twefluence” — a massive “twaudience.”

(Yeah, those Twitter plays-on-words are pretty shaky. Back to the “twawing board.”)

So, recognizing the opportunity to reach a lot of people, Mine Line Animal Rescue from Philadelphia has bought a Billboard at the corner of Lankershim and Moorpark in Los Angeles to convince the celebrity couple to tweet to their followers about the plight of dogs being raised in puppy mills in the U.S.

The billboard reads: “Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore please tweet all your followers and tell them about puppy mills. The dogs desperately need your help.”

The billboard also includes a website address, www.dogsinacage.com. On that site, MLAR explains a little more fully why they decided to ask Kutcher and Moore for their help.

“Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore – please Tweet your followers and tell them about puppy mills. Ask them to visit this site or any website explaining the horrors of factory farming man’s best friend. We’re asking you for your help for several reasons 1) because we heard you have five rescued dogs, 2) you are both on the Top Ten list of celebrities on Twitter and have huge followings, and 3) you seem like nice people with strong social consciences and obviously want to make the world a better place.

No tweets (yet) from Ashton or Demi. But word is, if they agree to tweet about puppy mills and the benefits of adopting a shelter pet, MLAR will donate $5,000 to the couple’s foundation, which combats human trafficking.

PUP Dog Rescue finds homes for small and toy breeds (Photo by Astig!!/Flickr)

One of our favorite local groups we follow on Twitter is People United for Pets (@PUPDogRescue). We enjoy their tweets and blogs — but most of all, the great job they’re doing finding homes for dogs!

PUP mostly rescues small and toy breeds. That’s their specialty. And they’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. When it comes to describing their mission, I can’t say it any better than they do:

“Countless dogs are without homes and in need of assistance. These are dogs who would make wonderful and faithful companions if only they could connect with the right person or family. We have made it our mission to help them do this. At the same time we hope to enrich the lives of those who adopt them.” (from peopleunitedforpets.com)

This tweet from yesterday also sums it up:

Just cuz we rescue small breed dogs, doesn’t mean they’re all #Chihuahuas! We have #FoxTerrier #Corgi #Dachshund #Pekingese #Poodle #Terrier & MORE!!

So, if you live in the Seattle area and want the love and companionship that a new dog can bring to your home, check out People United for Pets! Here’s the current list of wonderful dogs they’re looking to match with forever homes.

We found Parfait (pictured above) after fostering her through Seattle Pug Rescue. So one of SPR’s recent tweets caught my eye:

We’ve got pugs coming out of our ears! There are nearly 40 on our web page of available pugs. Check ’em out!

Forty is a lot of pugs looking for new homes. It’s also a bunch to choose from. Take a look at Seattle Pug Rescue’s page of available pugs. Pics, stats, and each pug’s “backstory.”

Where Sleeping Dogs Lie

30 Mar
Sleeping With Dog In Bed, Sniff Seattle Dog Walkers

Fighting for bed "real estate" (Photo by mollypop/Flickr)

I’ve had dogs my whole life, and they’ve almost always slept in bed with me.

I can still remember being five-years-old and sleeping with my Collie, Penny. I had a twin-sized bed and she was bigger than me. But there always seemed to be plenty of room.

Over the years, I’ve had several different dogs ranging from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane. Having them by my side at night, especially as a single girl, has always been comforting.

Funny thing is, it’s always seemed that the big breeds take up less room. I remember having plenty of leg room and space to roll around with those big dogs in bed.

But now with a small Pug, I almost feel like I’m sleeping in a coffin! He likes to plop down right on top of me, as if that’s his spot for the night. It’s not. I move him to end of the bed. But somehow, by morning he’s right back in the middle, pressed against me, practically pushing me off the bed.

I think it has to do with Pugs and their “over-sized” personalities. Any Pug owner can tell you, their little dog has to be the center-of-attention! And that’s one of the things I love about Pugs the most!

And picture this. Now that Parfait has joined Stewie in our family, it’s everything above…times two!
